Spring Picture Day is February 24th

Office 365 and One-Drive
Our class learned how to use the One-Drive today. This is a fantastic resource which will allow students to upload a file they are working on at school and be able to work on it at home as well. Because of this capability we want for our students, the district has bought the license for Office 365 for the entire district! This is a great tool for all of us!
Please have your child download Office 365 on your home computer from the Nye Student Page on the website. They have uploaded their Powerpoint presentation to work on at home. Once you have it downloaded your student will be able to add pictures and video from your home computer to their “About Me” PP Presentation.

Dear Parents,
We have been working on opinion/argument writing in our class for about 3 weeks. Students need to complete their letter to Dr. Thompson and turn in a draft on Friday. We have been talking about the thesis statement which goes at the end of the introduction. The thesis statement should go something like this:
I think___________ because (reason1)______________, (reason2)_________________, and (reason3)____________.
The thesis statement tells the reader what will come next in the body of the letter and should follow the same order. Please go over the letter with your child. Check that they have a thesis statement, and that the body paragraphs present evidence in the same order as the thesis statement.
There should be a concluding paragraph at the end that basically restates the thesis statement. Student should have their work on their one-drive (and on their USB drive as back up).
Thanks for your attention to your child’s progress.
Google App Permission Slip
Google docs has been made available for our students.  Please sign the permission slip and have your child return it to school ASAP so we can collaborate on our projects.   If you need another copy, please find the PDF by clicking here:  GAFE Permission Form

Scholastic Book Club

We’ve sent home the Spring Gift Book Catalog.  There are a lot of good choices this spring, with a few Star Wars books, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Magic Tree House, Captain Underpants, and lots more.  There are some really cool science selections such as Build a Shark model and book set, a book about Molecules, and a fun Bubble and Activity Book.  Go check out the selections online and place your order there before February 24th.  I’ll plan to submit the order then.

(If you are ordering online for the first time, our class code is GWTQW  )

Biztown Fieldtrip -Need Parent Volunteers on April 14th
This is going to be such a  fun and educational program for our kids.  I am so excited for our class.  We will be attending this wonderful program with a grant which will be covering most of the cost of this program.  We will still be asking for some help to pay for the busses.

We  will need some parent volunteers to help with a few activities.  More information will be coming soon.   But if you can help us on April 14th, we will need some parents to help run Biztown on our fieldtrip day.  Parents will be asked to meet us down at Biztown in Mission Gorge.  You will need to get there before our school arrives for  a little set up and training.  Please put the date down in your calendar if you think you might be interested and let me know ASAP (email me at glowe-brisby@sandi.net or send me message on ClassDojo).  It is going to be a great experience.

Year of the Monkey
Thank you for helping to make our Chinese New Year and Valentines so special.  I am always so amazed by the generosity of our wonderful parents.  We had a lovely feast with long life noodles, orange chicken, and lots of “gum”–golden tangerines.  Many students tried using chopsticks for the first time.  They had fun and enjoyed all the good food and new tastes.  We welcomed in good fortune and scared away bad spirits to bring in the new year with a parade around our school.  Here are a few pictures for you to enjoy.

Awards are this Friday at 8:10
